  1. I couldnt agree with you more. I had to unfortunately renew my license now because of an ongoing project, and it would take a lot of time to adapt and transfer everything to Maya (which I am using it now, indie version, 1/4 of what C4D costs yearly here in Brazil). And I am also a perpetual license holder for Redshift... render engine that had abysmal updates this year... and yes, the feeling that.. I have exactly 8 days left to purchase a maintenance for my license for the last time, so that I can use the render engine that I invested 1000 dollars in total (license and maintenances) so that I can have a chance to get some new feature that might not even arrive... it is.. absurd to say the least. The lack of care and respect towards perpetual customers, this has to be some anti-consumer practice right there. After this 31st of August, you have no chance whatsoever to update the license for Redshift that you paid for unless you accept to move in with their subscription plan/scam. All this could be easily solved by simply offering customers a choice. Can I not join the subscription model? Could exist a rent-to-own model also? Can I buy a perpetual license and not have ONLY two months of support on the freaking software that costs thousands of dollars?!?! Can I be treated in a similar way that subscription users are treated, after investing so much on the software with time, money, and countless plugins to overcome every single little thing that the software STILL is not capable of doing, including the render (which now is also losing support)? By the amount of reaction on the Redshift forums (And the usual patronizing tone from the Maxon associates with their typical "hey, we know what is best for you" type of answer) I know I am not alone with this sentiment. I will continue to use C4D for a year (well, specially now that I had to pay an absurd amount of money for a freaking rental software...) but I am doubling my weekly work hours, just so that I can Invest time and energy on learning a new software, and most important of all, on a company that I feel has more touch with reality. Autodesk is no saint... well, far from it, but at least offers a extremely professional software, that already comes with a superb and professional render engine - Arnold, for exactly 1/4 of what Maxon is asking.

  2. @Flima, Just a note on the Redshift situation: I understand that if you have current maintenance for your Redshift licence, you will be able to continue to purchase extensions for that maintenance up to a last renewal date in August 2023 - so that would potentially take you to August 2024 with a perpetual licence. I'm not defending the situation of course - I feel the same sort of way.

  3. As soon as I heard about volumetrics changes in 2.93 using Eevee, I wanted to recreate the looks of one of my favourite games for PS4/PC/Switch - "INSIDE" And after 6 hours (and a character I had rigged already in Blender before) I think it got pretty close 🙂 Here is a test, using only eevee, combining the toon look with a more realistic shade for the rest: https://vimeo.com/591316074/2c3f8c0e15

  4. Thanks for the kind words. Back in 2004 I wouldn't have known how to implement such solution. It still is not perfect but I am glad you (and many others) enjoy it.

  5. But all purchases for maintenance extensions need to be made by August 30th, 2021 (eg. next Monday). What bothers me is that the GPU "recommended" requirements for Redshift keep rising. The "minimum" CUDA compute requirement for pre-R3.04 was 3.0 but is now 5.0 for R3.04. Likewise, the "recommended" compute capability is now 7 and the recommended GPU memory is now 10Gb. This puts you squarely in the RTX family of products only (and maybe a Titan V) with 12Gb of memory which start around $2K. I am sure there are a few exceptions but this is where the majority of GPU's land pricewise that meet those requirements. We all may squawk over the cost of Redshift, but if you need cutting edge GPU's to get acceptable performance with each new release, then you have to ask yourself: Do I really want my maintenance agreements to last that long because Redshift pushes hardware obsolescence faster than I can afford. The max CUDA compute capability available from Nvidia is 8.6 and Redshift recommends 7.....the difference between 8.6 and 7 does not provide a lot of headroom between what Redshift needs and the very best (and most expensive) that nVidia has to offer. This is not a good trend...especially if you want to keep all your hardware for as long as possible. Dave

  6. I just saw this thread for the first time. I had a similar idea that I pitched to Maxon many years ago (2004) and never thought I would see it not just brought to life for real but also so beautifully done and with so many other good additions that I never even would have dreamed to ask for. Really great work! Am sorry to hear that you didn't get the kind of support for it that you were hoping for. I wish Maxon would buy this from you and make it part of the native package. Below is the gif I made to illustrate my idea back then:

  7. I believe so. As long as you keep your maintenance current my understanding is that you can keep renewing it - with the last maintenance renewal purchase date being some time in August 2023.
