  1. Yes, impressive work. When I was 14 I worked on C64 sprites on graph paper, using data statements and pokes to display them on the screen at an amazing 320x200 black and white resolution. 😄

  2. I'm looking for an modeler/rigger/animator that can produce some animations of theatrical drape reveals for me. These would be in HD resolution, approx 10 second animations. I'm looking to create animations of: Tabbing Curtain Venetian - Straight Lift Venetian - Contoured Austrian - Straight Lift Austrian - Contoured Flat Panel (Black) - Stright Lift Soft Pleated Main - Straight Lift Initially I'd just like to discuss this job and get some pricing/timelines so I can put it in front of the client. If you are interested please drop me a message.

  3. As no-one else has responded - unless by PM... The person that comes to my mind is https://chriscousins.myportfolio.com/ He's based in the UK like myself - so that maybe too remote for you. However, I do recall him doing some drapery work (Houdini) that looked very good: https://chriscousins.myportfolio.com/queen-adam-lambert-drapes He's a top man IMO.

  4. Well I would kind of argue this one. When I used to do graphic design work we did a lot of InDesign work and Powerpoint stuff. But the clients where taking this work away from us so that they could do it in house and save money. Nine times out of ten though the jobs used to come back to us to fix since the people they used to create the work did have the creativity or software knowledge to make these projects look good. I think that ability you are born with. Same principle applies to artistic things including 3D. You can have so much automated stuff but it all looks a bit similar bit like a lot of websites which all seem to be off the shelf these days. Innovation comes out but gets consumed by automation and becomes bland. Going a bit off topic here but it does apply 🙂

  5. I would prefer to work with Cinema. It is just so much nicer for me to work with. But in Germany we have a saying: "Wessen Brot ich esse dessen Lied ich singe" Literally translated it means: "whose bread I eat whose song I sing." And in my surrounding (first hand experience) Agencies I work for are now forced to use Blender because the client's design department has rationalized away Cinema. So I take all my medioker Blender skills and try to satisfy my client. I see teenager that come into companies for a internship. If they are interested in 3D they all have blender skills. If they are good and can provide 60% to 80% quality of a freelancer the freelancer can say good bye. It is funny with the mass distribution of 3D software, the public's expectation of quality does not increase. no, it decreases. Every agency will try to earn money with cheap interns and free software, because the budgets are also in the basement 🙂 The only ones who still think 3D animation is an elitist matter are the manufacturers of the commercial software packages. It's not that I like this, not at all, I hate it, but it is what it is. We will see what happens, maybe I am wrong, but I believe that things change so drastically, that in 20 Years we will see a completely different picture.

  6. @GazzaMataz In Blender it's the same. Copy, then open a new Blender instance, and paste. Everything is copied across, including animations, etc. Nothing is renamed. In Blender the concept of scenes is taken one step further: a file may consist of multiple scenes. A scene can fully duplicated or linked and thereby creates a new scene. Each scene can be viewed in its own window. True 🙂 That is why I mentioned "by popular vote". At least, it seems to be the case. Of course, any young one can just download Blender and start playing with it. The entry barriers for Cinema 4D are much higher. I've watched excellent 3d/VFX work done by kids all over the world with Blender these past few years. Maxon ought to provide Cinema 4D for free to kids - otherwise they will lose the next generation, I feel. They already are..? For example, a 14 year old made this all by himself in two months time: Eevee was a huge help: real-time feedback to adjust the final look helped him adjust things very quickly.
