  1. What you are both saying is at the core of my original point - that being when does the depiction of violence in entertainment become gratuitous. I think you would both agree that there is a point when it goes from being necessary to being gratuitous. Is that a fine line? Not sure, but I would imagine that line is different for everyone. I will leave it there as I have a world of respect for you both as artists and more importantly as people. I think we agree in some respect and I understand your point about how art should and does cast a wide net over all aspects of society. But, and this is the most important point after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We just have different eyes and therefore see things in different ways. That is perfectly fine with me and I hope it is perfectly fine with you as well. Dave

  2. I saw a guy on YouTube who had made an aluminium helix that changed radius at the top and went down inside the original helix to join up again at the base. When it spins you get an up down optical illusion. I tried to make it using formula spline - disaster I tried joining 2 helix primitives using FFD to flatten the ends - another disaster Eventually I used a tracer and some XPresso math. Here's the wip -

  4. More modeling practice: The Katakana Chair designed by Sean Dare @ Dare Studios.. Thanks goes out to Cerbera and Igor on this one - take a look at this thread where they help me sort out how to tackle this chair in SubD. Thanks guys - it's not perfect, but a huge leap forward for me in understanding.

  5. Yeah, gotta second DF there. Art should reflect all aspects of humanity from the very lightest to the very darkest shades, and all the levels and complexity in between... personally the reds in a splatted brain, (and even a gratuitously splatted one sometimes !) are still somewhat artistically justified in my book because of the reaction they provoke in us - after all is that not what art is aiming to do; provoke a reaction ? And not all reactions have to be nice... and arguably, perhaps we learn and grow the most from the ones that aren't ! I think if there is any place in the world where extremes should be permissible, or rather untrammelled, art is it. CBR

  6. I find this to be a very... narrow view. I hate violence irl in any shape or form. It's unecessary. But I do like a good gory videogame. Mind you, I don't play these games because of the gore but because they are good games and their atmosphere just happens to be supported by gore. I wouldn't want to play a game with zombies without over the top blood and gore effects. It's just not the same. There are certainly cases where this goes to far, for example the Mortal Kombat games; these are just as gory as possible just to be as gory as possible. What really rubs me the wrong way is that you're comparing this to real bloodsport that happened in our history. Just because I like some heads exploding in my videogames and movies does NOT mean that I ever want to see something like this again. I really don't. That said, yes, the first Episode in the first Season was by far the worst and I did find this scene to be over the top and unecessarily gory. I bet this was more a case of some artists going "hey we never had the chance to do this in any movie yet, let's see how good we can make it look". And yeah, they nailed it pretty well lol.

  9. Thanks a million! Yeah I had to reign in the ideas a bit when I seen how long the cloud renders were taking. I guess the issue was all I knew I wanted was some space thing with the Pod. The clouds were originally going to be just in the distance on entry but I didn't like how the texturing was looking for that so just thought I'd focus on the clouds and end it there too. This is previz I done. Originally I wanted to build out an environment with World Creator and have the pod flying down there One of first renders of I done of the pod but opted for a cleaner texture. In hindsight I think I should have stuck with worn look Then this was initial rough idea for down on planet with WC Sorry, went on bit of tangent there! So the stars/nebula are two HDRI's combined. The nebula fractal is using one of The French Monkey's Fractal Domes. I think when I switched to ACES for that first shot got nice dark color in background. Yeah I have motion blur enabled in Octane of 0.02 for the 24fps. On the LCR course this is covered in super detail, really big eye opener for me. Then the star map is one from NASA or I might have used the one from LCR course. You could even make star map using noise in Photoshop.

  10. Working on some more updates for the JetFluids plugin. Adding in the ability to apply force to the volumes. Also adding in Fields support. Lots of additional little bug fixes and here and there also. You can get the current version 0.08 for free here. https://www.plugins4d.com/jetfluids Next version will be 0.09. Some WIP so far using forces and fields. Note that the simulation time is not realtime, but it is pretty quick. What you are seeing below however is the realtime playback in C4D after simulating. All frames are individual files on disk. Using a box to apply force to a fluid. No collision detection is happening here, just a downward force from the box. Box is driven here using Signal from Greyscalegorilla. Applying a spherically shaped force upwards from within the water. Using a Spherical Field as an attractor to pull the liquid up for a few frames. Churning some liquid using a Radial Field,

  11. Hi folk! Haven't made a lot of models inside C4D but the elephant and this Mass Effect Salarian are my favorites so I printed them. This one's about 23cm tall and stands proudly on my tv cabinet ^^ The files aren't really fit for sharing and haven't been optimized but perhaps if I can find the time (and energy) I will fix that. Have a good evening!
